Linky Love

We are testing this week. I wanted to pass some things around...First I love Carrie at Sweet Farie Designs. This is my 2nd blog makeover she's done for me. It's much more me...I'm glad she's my IRL friend and a very patient one. It's beautifully simple! Thank you Carrie.

Dara from Once upon a Cottage
is having a giveaway hosted at One Nutty Girl.

I have this sign, but I entered anyway...because her signs are
so beautiful! She even does custom signs and frames to match your decor.

I've been wanting a dress form...and I stumbled upon this one that Carissa from Equivocal Notions made. I can't wait to try it. She made it sound so easy!

Also...I've been hearing alot of chatter about slipcovers and I was thinking about doing one of those linky party things for everyone who's made a slipcover or who needs the motivation to make their very own Lazy Girl Custom Slipcover. You can slipcover whatever you want...a chair, sofa, ottoman...What do you think?

I heart faces! Week 7

iheartfaces is having a black/white week 7. So here is my entry.

I chose this photo because she is my serious one and is rarely found laughing out loud unabashedly like this. It makes my heart smile.

10 Minute Bathroom Makeover

Nester is having a 10 minutes to a room you love finale! So here's my little 10 minute re-do! No biggie...just warmer! My favorite vintage Hawaiian prints were feeling lonely.

BEFORE

AFTER

Nothing major...My 10-minute makeover was super easy. I found a striped rug from the thrift store that matched my paint. Moved this $10 bookshelf that I painted white, from my kitchen. I just added the burlap curtain with a spring rod...to hide all my girly paraphenalia! I moved a candle from the living room into here and it feels so much more homey. Just a few simple things really warmed up my bathroom. I just want to sit in here and read...sometimes I do.

A Vintage Valentine Giveaway!

The Valentine's giveaway is from Vintage Momma. I saw one of her rings on Shannon from Rocks in my Dryer when I was at the Blissdom conference. I can't wait to receive my very own. It is gorgeous stuff with a gorgeous cause. She is giving away this ring and necklace set valued at $42.

This is what Vintage momma says:

One-in-8© is a new line I am introducing in support and recognition of the fight against Breast Cancer. 1-in-8 women have Breast Cancer (13%), and my sister is that "1" in the statistic.

She was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer, that spread to her brain. She endured several surgeries, chemo, radiation and many other trials. She is doing fantastic now and enjoying loving her family and her life, because of faith, healing, and the amazing doctors and treatment she received and continues to receive.
This line is in support of her journey as well as the millions of women who have faced and fought this awful disease, and a great way to share your story and the story of others.
50% of the profit from this line of jewelry will go directly towards continuing the fight against this life-altering disease.

To enter the giveaway, all you need to do is go to Vintage Momma, come back here and leave a comment on what your favorite piece is. The giveaway will be open until Friday night. Then I will use random number generator to choose from the comments. You do not have to have a blog, but please make sure that you leave your email...so that I can get in touch with you. The winner will be announced Saturday morning. Also, check out Vintage Momma's Blog when you get a chance.
Thanks for participating.

Blissdom '09

I had a blast at Blissdom! My goal was to build some relationships and to, hopefully, learn a couple of techno things that would help me be a better blogger. I really feel like I gained so much more.

I met my bloggy crush...Edie from Life in Grace. She is absolutely adorably sweet! I wish we'd had more time to chat and I can't wait to get together again.

I got to see Nester again and meet The Inspired Room (middle). My roomate (in green) is Dara from Once upon a cottage. She is the most hysterical person and, seriously, I was laughing all weekend.

Some other's I follow are Kimba at A Soft Place to Land and Rhoda at Southern Hospitality. Absolute sweetie's.

I met Carrie via Nester via Mrs.FussyPants and she actually lives 5 minutes from me. She rode to Nashville with me and Dara and is now my new friend. Carrie also is the one who did my blog makeover...Sweet Faerie Designs.

Disney gave us a special screening of Yanni Voices and I got to meet two of the singers. This is Nathan Pacheco...absolutely the most magnificent voice!

And Ender Thomas...with a knock out...gorgeous voice also! I met tons of people that I wanted to talk with longer...but 2 days is really not enough time. Look forward to next year!

After thought on "i am that mom"

To some, it may seem as though I were being judgmental...probably I was. I am a judgmental person...and slowly it is being stripped from me. I will tell you a story. I used to walk through Target and hear screaming kids and say to myself, "if that were me, I would....blah, blah, blah..." You can fill in the blanks. A while ago, my MIL was diagnosed with lung cancer, so I decided that me and my girls would go see her for a couple of weeks. We did this the next summer also. We flew into Los Angeles and drove 4 hours north to the Central Coast. We stayed for 2 weeks and had a lovely visit. When it was time to go home...we drove 4 hours again back to Los Angeles to fly out the next day. (It was cheaper to fly in/out of L.A.) I needed diapers...enough to get me through a 24 hour period. I drove to Target in Manhattan Beach on a Sunday. Going to Target on a Sunday in Manhattan Beach is like going to church on Sunday in the South. Not. kidding. Everyone is there! So I'm standing in line at the check out and my oldest (then 4) asks if she can have a Hello Kitty jewelry box that is so conveniently located at her eye level...right at the check out. I said, "no, not this time." She starts to cry profusely...hyperventillating. I'm holding my baby...trying to help my oldest. Now, I CAN'T give it to her, because she's crying and we don't cry to get our way. Everyone in the store is staring at me. I just want to announce to everyone that...we just drove 4 hours from seeing her grandparents...she hasn't seen her father in 2 weeks...she's hungry, tired and so am I. It wasn't about the Hello Kitty jewelry box. You just don't...really...know what's going on. There are always 2 sides to every story. Many times I've judged a situation because I thought I was right. For many year's I thought I knew the right way about everything, that I had the corner market on how to do it. I don't. I'm being stripped of that...thank God! He does have a way of speaking...I just have to listen.

(My in-laws with my girl's on previous mentioned trip...celebrating Grandpa's July 4th birthday. My MIL passed away a year and a half later)

Thrifting for more than Furniture

I have found some great finds at thrift stores...my favorite pair of 501 button-fly levi's for a few bucks! I didn't even try them on...I mean who has time with kids in tow. They were only a few bucks. And if you're like me, by now you can pick up a pair of jeans...look at the seat and determine if they will fit or not. The boots are not from a thrift store, but from ebay. I know eewww gross! Not really. These boots were a find...and it's not like I'm putting my bare feet in them...new insoles work wonders. Brand new, they cost A LOT of dinero! My husband would FREAK if I bought them for retail. I BIG LOVE these boots! The BEST 35 bucks I ever spent!

I have a huge coat fetish. I buy lots of coats and jackets at the thrift store. This is my favorite find. I love this 1970's..."Christie Love" jacket! Makes you feel like a detective!

Recycled Magazine Holder (Re-Post)

Jennifer Forker with the Associated Press wrote an article entitled "Crafts to make a home office homey" and she used my "recycled magazine holder" tutorial. You can read the article here, here, here and here. So I decided to do somewhat of a re-post...just in case you're trying to organize and need one more project to do. Just click here for the tutorial.
