Simple Halloween Decor

I found some twigs in the yard, wired my Dollar Tree crows on and stuffed them into a thrift store urn with a little spanish moss. Then, I stretched some of that spider web stuff through the twigs. BTW, you can find bags of spider web at thrift stores right now.

A friend gave me the silver candelabra...so, I just stuck some black candle sticks in it. I had the black table runner. The skull was from Dollar Tree.

I had 3 black frames and just printed "BOO" with different fonts and stacked them against the mirror. I.heart.Halloween.

Recycle a skirt into an apron

Do you have a skirt in your closet that you no longer wear. Recycle it into an apron! I found this floral A-line skirt at a thrift store and thought it would make a cute apron. It is tres simple! I've attempted a tutorial below. Hope it makes sense. Have fun!

You could also add a pocket or a cute little ruffle at the bottom. I didn't...yet. I just wanted to show you a simple recycle from skirt to apron. Can't wait to see your's.

Southern Ideal Home Show

This weekend, I attended the Southern Ideal Home Show with my husband. My favorite part was the demonstration by Edward Walker at the Habitat for Humanity Booth. He is known as one of the designers on Trading Spaces. He demonstrated how to turn trash to treasure. We love that!

His 4 must have tools:

1) Spray Paint
2) Glue Gun
3) Staple Gun
4) Sewing Machine

He painted that chair on the right...black and re-covered it in zebra print. Looks eerily similar to this one. Great minds must think alike. He was very charming.

Chris, Edward, Me and Carie

Chris is working with a new site called Diggers List. It is a free construction classifieds. Habitat for Humanity is one of the lister's.

Take a look at this couch that may be listed if it didn't sell at the show. I was drooling all over the place. It is a gorgeous toile fabric! Go visit Edward Walker's website...he's also working on a blog, but he said to please be patient.

Monogrammed Burlap Tote Bag

I love seeing things come to fruition. Sometimes...you have an idea and it doesn't turn out quite like you saw it in your head. Then other times, it turns out exactly as you imagined it. As with this bag. I wanted a new fall bag, but something simple with texture. And it had to be roomy enough to carry some books, etc. I love the black and white polka dot with the burlap...it turned out perfectly. And...the monogram totally makes it. It's actually for a friend I'll be seeing this weekend. I'm off for a relaxing time in the mountains of NC with some gals for a little rejuvenation.

I think I'll list these bags in my etsy store when I get back. I'm also busy making some Halloween ("Boo Y'all") and some Fall ("Happy Fall Y'all")Aprons. So y'all come back next week to check out the goods.

Dress Forms

I have been on the hunt for some dress forms. This weekend my SIL surprised me with, not one, but TWO gorgeous dress forms. She and her family just moved back to the states from England and she brought these back with her...along with some other goodies. They are begging for some apron love! They deserve a name...doncha think? What names should I give them?

Living in the south

Some days I find myself behind this...and my impatience starts to soar. And then I think...I'm glad it's not the 405 Fwy in L.A. Give me a tractor and a red, beat up, old ford pick-up truck any day. Off to squeeze in one last weekend at the beach! Have a great Labor Day Weekend!

Freezer Paper Art: Dining Room Chairs

A little Freezer Paper art goes a long way...I love the transformation of this dining chair!

How to transform your dining chairs:

First...buy a roll of Freezer Paper ( in your grocery store aisle with the aluminum foil, etc.)

1) Print out your image and tape the edges to the NON-SHINY side of the freezer paper.

2) Use an xacto knife to cut out the image. Make sure to go all the way through the freezer paper AND put a piece of cardboard or mat under so you don't wreck up your table.

3) Iron shiny side of freezer paper directly onto your chair. I wasn't scared because I just used painter's drop cloth to cover the chair.

4) Paint! You can use fabric paint, but I just used regular 'ol craft paint. It stains clothes anyway. Let dry and peel the freezer paper off!

5) Tahdah! Cute dining chair! Just make sure it's completely dry before sitting in it.

Other projects I've done using freezer paper art...here and here. You can find another tutorial here.

I am joining Kimba's DIY DAY...quick...go check out the projects of other do it yourselfer's.

Are you ready for Halloween?

I received my October Country Living Magazine a couple of days ago! Do i think it's too early for Halloween? No. I can hardly wait for September 1 to pull out my big plastic Orange and black bin full of fall and Halloween decorations! My friend across the street just gave me the cutest little Halloween candles she made. You can find the directions here. Simple and Easy. I love the colors orange and black and can't wait to do up my front porch for fall. We are in a new house this year. The excitement abounds!

This is what my porch looked like last year.

Some projects from last year...monogrammed pumpkin and monogrammed galvanized bin. Don't set them together like this...that would be called Monogram overload. Put the small pumpkin on a candle sconce and some mums in the bucket.

Don't forget the monogrammed crow! Hopefully this is not too much monogramming! But really, can you ever have too much monogramming? No. We southern gals like our monogramming.

Last year, I made this "BOO Y'ALL" apron and gave it away. I think I'll make some more. Would you even want this??

One of my favorite treats for fall is this yummy Ben & Jerry's Limited Edition Pumpkin Cheesecake icecream. Mmmm!

I can't wait to make these paranormal portaits and to see what everyone else is up to. So...are you ready for Fall / Halloween? or Am I just the crazy Halloween lady?
