Another DIY Chalkboard

Recently Updated60

Found a picture thrifting and turned it into a chalkboard. Super EASY!

view of corner

I also did a little re-vamping of this corner. I'm selling furniture and keeping furniture and painting furniture AND need to slipcover furniture.

diy chalkboard before

I got this for free, because the thrift store was having a buy one get one free sale. I love the frame and I just painted three coats of chalkboard paint over the top of the picture and it looks fabulous! I always look for great frames...even if the picture is ugly. Go forth and paint!

Facebook, Affiliates & No Ning...Oh My!

Lazy Girl Slipcover by Amy

Lazy Girl Slipcover by Amy from Momma Hen's Coop. This is her first slipcover, but it does not look lazy...it looks like a professional! Great job Amy.

Time for a little housekeeping. First, Ning is going to start charging a monthly fee to have a group. Unfortunately, I won't be able to continue with Ning due to pricing. It's a bummer, because I really like the forum and all you Lazy Girl Members! I love that we can discuss all things slipcover-y...and get great tips from each other.

So...I created a Facebook page to post pics and have discussions. I'm going to try to copy and post everyone's pics from Ning to Facebook. I LOVE seeing all of your slipcover's and it encourages everyone that THEY, too, can do it!
You can click on the badge to the right to become a fan.

Second, we've started an affiliate program. Click on the tab above for more information and how to get started as an affiliate for The Lazy Girl's Guide to Custom Slipcover's. My Fairy Blog Mother figured it all out and made it super easy with directions and everything...because she's techy like that. I'm not.
Now I'm off to buy more oatmeal bath, because guess who has the chicken pox now? Yep, one of my kid's!

Weekend Painting Frenzy

Weekend Painting Frenzy

I'm a liar. Please forgive me. The day after this post, I went thrifting...kinda by accident. It happens like that ya know...you just kinda fall into it. One minute you're driving and the next thing you know your car has taken you hostage to the nearest goodwill. Sometimes the powers that be KNOW better than you. And you just have to trust that.

Desk Before

So I came home with this adorable desk with a matching night stand. I'm in the process of painting right now. I did sell two dressers this weekend.

Pedestal Table After

And I think I'm getting ready to sell this gorgeous pedestal table I just finished. It screams cottage.

Pedestal Table Before

It looked like this before. It's so hard to let go of furniture for me...it's like they have roots and have embedded themselves into my very flesh. It's painful sometimes...especially because I don't want to have seller's remorse. What did you paint in a frenzy this weekend?

Friday's Featured Slipcovers

La Maison Reid made this adorable slipcover with a sassy little ruffle for her wing chair.

Check out this lounge chair by Nouveau Stitch. Such a fun fabric! She also slipped her sofa.

Thrifty Tickle shows us that any shape can be slipcovered! So art deco!

Even kid's chair's get the slip...like this one from Melissa at A Familiar Path. Love the fun, bright fabrics patch-worked together.

BTW: Sorry about missing last week's Friday's Featured Slipcovers. Hope yall have a great weekend! xo

My name is Kristi and I have a furniture addiction

I went thrifting with my favorite 2 girlies yesterday...then we went out to eat lunch. It's amazing how much you appreciate those little things when you've been quarantined to your house for almost 2 weeks. At our first stop, I found this table and chairs for $38. Yes! Seriously!

My conversation with the owner:

Me: "you know that table and chairs back there for $38 dollars?"

Owner: "yes"

Me: "it's only $38 dollars?"

Owner: "yes"

Me: "$38 dollars?"

Owner: "ummm yes"

Me: "wow! i'll take it." "i'll have to go dump my kids off before i can load it into my big fat earth destroying suv."

Owner: " i'll put a sold sign on it."

Me: "i'll be back."

I totally didn't need it, but it was $38 dollars! So I moved my rectangle dining table upstairs as a studio / sewing table. And I'm rearranging a bunch of other stuff. I'll post about my studio as soon as it's done!

I'm working on this today. Can anyone say hoarder's intervention? There are so many projects in here that need to be done and I will not step foot into another thrift store until this garage is clean. I think.

To Do's:
  • slipcover set of clubchairs to sell
  • refinish white dresser and chest of drawers to put in master
  • paint pedestal table white and sell along with chairs
  • husband to finish corn hole set
  • chest of drawers to be painted a light gray for master
  • door leaning to the right to be made into headboard for master
  • ride my bike...sometime when it's not 100 degrees and 200% humidity
  • move elliptical machine to studio {it's there, i just took this pic before it came in}
  • organize paints and supplies
  • misc...

She has a super funny story about a conversation she had with her husband about this door. Men just don't appreciate door art. Believe you me...you will fall in love with Heather!

Chicken Pox

I have the chicken pox. I was diagnosed over a week ago. They're almost gone and from what I understand, I had a mild case. I think that was due to VitaMama's recipe of supplements called a viral shock. I never had them as a child. I look like a pimply faced teenager right now. I'm slathering mederma on to prevent scarring. I've been quarantined to my home. I had to sneak into my Aunt Pearl's funeral so I wouldn't contaminate anyone. I was able to go to the viewing early before anyone got there...so I could see her. Thank you to everyone for all your thoughts and prayers for me and my family and for eating your dessert's FIRST! You are all so sweet.

Some things I've learned about having the chicken pox:
  • Tell someone. and they will stay at about a 5 ft radius from you...or even further.
  • Your children learn to fend for themselves. She cooks.
  • You, CAN, in fact sleep 36 consecutive hours. Who knew?
  • Your house can actually look like a landfill when you get up.
  • You can watch 3 seasons of a sitcom in about 2 days...streaming on netflix.
  • Your bathtub actually works as a bathtub and not just a laundry basket.
  • You really miss snuggling and kissing your family all over!
  • Your husband will have an even greater appreciation for how you run the household.
  • Your dog will miss walks with you.
  • Your air conditioner upstairs will go out. just lucky like that.
  • Your husband wonders why you haven't had a nervous breakdown yet. {I did...in the shower, but not in public}.
  • You finally sew that bag your daughter's been begging you for.
  • When you have tickets to go see John Mayer and Train, you have to sell them because even though your friends love you, they.do.not.want.chicken pox.
  • Your friends are the BEST EVER! Not only do they come to Aunt Pearl's viewing and funeral...they cook dinners and bring sweet treats and new books for you to encourage you to get well.
Here's to hoping you NEVER get chicken pox as an adult!

Lamp Shade Re-do

I found this lamp already painted white AND with the drum shade...at the thrift store. It was tall and slender and distressed in all the right places.

Here's how it looked before I fancied it up with some black dandy damask fabric, turquoise ribbon and a little hot glue. What did you fancy up this weekend?

Aunt Pearl

My Aunt Pearl passed away Tuesday morning. She was 94 and her motto was "Eat dessert first." Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for our family! You are all so dear.
Today eat your dessert first in honor of Aunt Pearl. xoxo

Invoke Cottage

Nothing invokes cottage more than beadboard. And if you don't want to get your saw out to cut REAL beadboard...go for the wallpaper. I am in love with bead board wallpaper! It's so easy to install. It's pre-pasted and ready to go. It can make a cabinet go from ho-hum to Fabulous cottage...in minutes. All you need are a few tools...if you can call them tools.

I use my cutting mat and my rotary cutter for everything...even to cut fake wood floors. Yes, you'll have to buy a new rotary blade, if you ever want to cut fabric again...but it's so easy to use. I measured the inside of my cabinet with a measuring tape. Then measured my wall paper and cut it to size using my yardstick for a straight line. Dip it into the water for a few seconds and paste it up. Tah-dah!
Easy Peasy!

before

after

I still haven't painted it and was going to use a high gloss white because white is my comfort and my safe color and I don't know how to branch out. I was thinking of doing a color, a muted color of course...like a light gray. What do yall think?

Eclipse

I must be one of the LAST people on earth to see this movie. I was supposed to go last Friday, but didn't make it due to my Aunt Pearl being in the hospital. One of the other girl's going also had someone in the hospital. So the other girl's went without us. NOT! They waited until we could all go together.

No one cheated in going to see it...even though it's playing at the IMAX theatre. And Edward would be THAT much larger on screen. They waited. I love those girl's. They are my peeps, my circle, my confidants. They are my 'what happens in vegas stays in vegas' girls! OR {what happens at Ann's stays at Ann's } Although I've never been to Vegas...but you know what I mean. So tonight we go to see Eclipse, then after...off to our local Mexican joint for dinner and drinks. Can't wait to hang with all my peeps!
AND I can't wait to see Edward on the Big Screen! I hear this is Jacob's movie, but I doubt it! Have you seen it yet?

Go read Cote de Texas' post about Eclipse. She totally cracked me up!

Prettify your camper

I didn't get a great picture with the beds all made up, but you get the gist of it! If we girlies are going to camp...why not prettify your camper or tent. Have some creature comforts from home! I'm not big on being all rustic like Grizzly Adams, so when I camp, I make sure it looks cute and I have some necessities.

Make slipcovers for the cushions. There must be a person who is sitting there saying "Let's pick out the ugliest fabric we can find and put it in all campers everywhere." Really, fabric in campers are ugly. I'm sorry if you're a camper manufacturer...but it's true. You must know the truth...women everywhere can't stand the fabric used in campers. So...dress up your camper. Prettify it with fabric!

I made these cute slipcovers for the cushions and covered all the valance's. Everything easily unscrews and I just used my staple gun to staple the fabric on. I didn't even take the ugly fabric off...just stapled right over the top. I used a twin sheet to make the curtains, slipped them on spring rods and popped them inside the valance. I'm always looking for sheets when I'm out...there are some great patterns and you can use them for a variety of things like curtains, pillows, slipcovers...it's limitless.

I was thinking about painting and then thought about putting the beadboard wall paper on the walls. What do yall think? Has anyone painted the interior of a camper? How'd you do it?
