Cheap and Easy Halloween decor

living room halloween decor

I'm trying to simplify and use what I've got! I get to benefit from the previous owner's rose's...orange and red! FREE fall decor! What do you have in your yard that you can use for decor?

halloween crows decor

I found this birdhouse for $5 on a side of the road yard sale. The crow's are from Dollar Tree and the branches are from my yard {free}. Use branches and pine cones for easy free decor. Put them in apothecary's or large glass vases. If you celebrate Halloween, stretch some dollar tree spider web around the branches. Instant eerie!

monogrammed pumpkin

I found this white pumpkin at dollar tree and the urn and glass apothecary at the thrift store. You can make your own monogrammed pumpkin...here. Just plop it up on top of a candle stick.

halloween hutch decor

My Hutch...which is similar to last year. We just haven't added the spider webs yet....ooohhh.

halloween hutch decor

Use books with a black binding. My hutch is decorated in black and white. The white ceramic pumpkin has candy hiding in it...for adults only. No children know it's there!

halloween hutch decor

Use frames you have...just find three and type out different fonts to spell out "boo" or "eek" or whatever thrills you! I also re-used wine bottles and covered them with dollar tree labels and put candles in them. Centsational Girl has some labels you can download here. How cool would a red candle look in one of these bottles...like blood dripping...eek...

front door pumpkin decor

With the front door, I just simply put pumpkins on top of the urns with some spanish moss and dollar tree crows. We'll be putting some spider webs on the porch soon...

mum decor

Mums! Everyone needs mums...even me...even though I have a black thumb! I do buy mums every year. Go check out the How-To for the "Monogrammed galvanized bucket" here.

Halloween - monogrammed crow

Monogrammed Crow Plaque for the front door or...where ever you want it. Here's the tutorial.
To decorate for fall or Halloween...just look around your house! I'm sure you've got something you can use!

I'm linking to Nester's Fall Mantel Party...even though my mantel is decorated with my man's TV! I decorate else where! Also, linking to Hooked on Houses and This Blessed Nest.

Ready for Halloween

Halloween 2010

My family is ready! I pulled out the big orange and black bins indicating it was time for Halloween. I was trying to do a little fall decorating, but out came the wigs, costumes and the characters began. We love Halloween! I've by-passed fall and gone straight to Halloween with the encouragement of my two littles.

Tomorrow, I'll show you how simply and cheaply you can decorate for Halloween by using what you've got. I'll, also, be participating in Nester's Fall Mantel Linky Party...although my mantel leaves much to be desired. I'll be showing you my hutch and other stuff!

Wing Chair Slipcover

DSC_0003

I finished this beauty! I adore how it turned out and like I said...this was my first attempt at making a slip from a print. It was also my first attempt at sewing with upholstery zippers. Not that hard...just a little patience. I will do a post on sewing a zipper...so don't fret your pretty little selves.

DSC_0002

I made this slipcover to put in a local fabric store...that wants me to teach a basic slipcover class. So stay tuned. I'll let you know how it pans out. Although, I want to keep this chair all to myself. I found that birdhouse at a yard sale on the side of the road last Friday...for a mere $5. I had to restrain myself from jumping out of the car and sprinting over to it.

wing chair slipcover

I'm slowly trying to get my fall decor out. Really I'm just waiting to put out Halloween stuff! It's my favorite holiday! It's not too early for Halloween decor...is it?

Zipper Love

slipcover zipper

Yes...I know...coming from the professed zipper hater, I am quickly falling head over heels in love with this stuff.

zipper upholstery tape

Zipper Upholstery Tape! I wanted to try it for the wing chair I'm working on. It's really not as scary as I had thought. And they give super easy directions...right on the back. I purchased this at Hancock's, but I heard JoAnn's also has it.

wing chair slipcover

I just have to finish the skirt and I'll be done. Then I need to finish the other 47 projects I've started. I've been asked about the fabric. It says "Chris Stone California 2005" on the binding. I purchased 5 yds as a remnant. There was no more....sorry. I looked online and couldn't find any. If you do, let us know! What project can you be determined to finish this week?

Day Trippin'

Beach Thrifting

We took a day trip to go thrifting in Wilmington. We hit Ivy Cottage, Thrill of the Hunt, Shop of Seagate...and a plethora of thrift stores. It was all about the thrifting and the eating...of course. We ate at Dockside for lunch. I had shrimp and grits {my first time}...delish!
Guess who else was at Dockside for lunch...

We were total paparazzi geeks! I'm soooo lame!

Then we went to K38 for dinner and I had the yummiest grilled mahi mahi fish tacos! "VitaMama", who is my friend IRL and a sponsor also went...along with my friend "T." We had a great day hanging out and would you believe that I came home with only 1 shirt for myself? No furniture! Where do you Day Trip?

Quilt in the making

Quilt in the making

I'm working on this "easy peasy grandma quilt" for my daughter. Even if you don't quilt...you can make this. I'll show the completed quilt soon and I'll have a tutorial, so you can make your very own. I'm hoping her room will come together the way I have it in my head. I've tweaked several things...including this quilt. I still have my fake roman shades to make and I'm trying to decide if she has enough room to house a comfy chair. I want to take the closet doors off and hang a curtain. When the doors open...there is NO room. Stay tuned!

Altar your furniture

green glazed dresser

Here's a little sneak peek of the dresser I painted, distressed and glazed! I think I'm in love! And now I want to paint every.single.piece of furniture I own in some funky color...turquoise or lime green...distress it and then glaze it!

I recently read the DIY Guide to Painted Furniture by Mandie from Altard and it gave me the courage to paint a piece something other than white. Oh, how I wished I'd had this book before I ever attempted painting my first piece of furniture years ago! And I'm not just saying that because I'm an affiliate {because I am an affiliate}. It would have saved me so many headaches and backaches and just plain aches!

headboard by Mandie

You see...I have a daughter who loves COLOR and bling and glitter and sparkle. Right now, I'm in the middle of making her room her own. And...according to her, there is no such thing as too much color! So, instead of my standard M-O of painted white furniture...I decided to go with some color on some pieces.

I loved the distressed, glazed look of Mandie's furniture. And if you're lucky enough to live in Texas, Mandie can do a custom piece for you OR you can buy something she has already 'altard.' Yall, she also has painting workshops. With the encouragement of Mandie's book, I just went for it and love how it turned out! She tells you what she uses' and what works for her. We both, also, have a mutual LOVE for Purdy Paint brushes!

"Our goal in writing this ebook
is to take the scary out of furniture refinishing, and encourage you that
you can have gorgeous one-of-a-kind furniture with just a few hours of
work."
~Mandie from "Altard"

So, if you want to banish your fear of color on furniture, just click below to download Mandie's book for only $10. Hope to show you my little's colorful room soon!
